If you are selling:

  1. Always take carrier bags with you for your customers' use
  2. Take lots of coinage in order to provide change
  3. Cover your table with a cloth for better presentation
  4. Display prices and price the more expensive items individually
  5. Keep your money safe (not in a box on general display)
  6. Wrap up well, especially in the winter months
  7. A pen, some stickers and a notepad are useful
  8. Be polite, helpful and honest
  9. Be prepared to be surrounded by people when you arrive, and for some bartering

Please note that it is quite common for people to open your doors and start rooting around in your vehicle, before you have even got out of your car and set your stall up.

Do not be afraid, 99 per cent of the time they are polite and honest people. Don't forget, you will probably take more money in the first 20 minutes than the rest of the day!

If you are buying:

  1. Get there early
  2. Look in those boxes under the table
  3. Be prepared to root about
  4. Barter with the prices
  5. Look for damage (this can make the item less expensive)
  6. Never buy electrical goods unless you see it working
  7. Cutlery boxes are a good place to find silver
  8. Take a torch in the winter
  9. Don't be too cheeky as this often offends
